NEWPORT NEWS JUST DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING CLOSE TO PRACTICE ON NEVER MIND THE ALTITUDE 5000-7000 FEET RANGES.

BUT THE GOOD NEWS, I MADE IT SAFELY AND GOT A GREAT WORKOUT. I HAD ANOTHER GREAT DINNER AND VISIT WITH MY OLD FRIENDS FROM HOME TIM AND NICOLE TONIGHT IN ALBUQUERQUE WHERE THEY LIVE.

OUR REST DAY IN SANTA FE WAS JUST THAT – A GOOD REST! I EXPLORED A BIT OF THE TOWN , SAT BY THE POOL, CLEANED MY BIKE AND THE HIGHLIGHT WAS A VISIT FROM OLD FRIENDS. TIM AND NICHOLE WERE RUNNING BUDDIES IN NEWPORT NEWS 20 YRS AGO NOW LIVING IN ALBUQUERQUE. THEY DROVE UP TO TAKE ME TO DINNER AND 3 HOURS LATER WE WERE STILL CATCHING UP. IT WAS A GREAT VISIT AND I WAS SO GRATEFUL TO SEE THEM, REMINISCE AND CATCH UP.

TODAY WE HAVE A 77 MILE RIDE TO ALBUQUERQUE THE FIRST OF A 7 DAY RIDE WEEK BEFORE ANOTHER REST DAY!!!

I AM CONTINUING TO SEE AND LEARN NEW THINGS EACH DAY HOPING TO REACH MY FUNDRAISING GOAL FOR ALZHEIMER’S BEFORE CALIFORNIA.

FOR 2 DAYS I HAVE BEEN NURSING A SLOW TIRE LEAK WAITING FOR OUR REST DAY IN SANTA FE TO CHANGE IT. THIS MORNING I AWOKE AND NOTICED THE AIR WAS REALLY LOW. AFTER MENTIONING IT TO MY ROOMMATE SUSAN SHE JUMPED INTO ACTION. WE WENT OUTSIDE WITH MY BIKE, NEW TUBE IN HAND AND SHE WENT INTO ACTION CHANGING MY TUBE IN A FLASH ONLY TO DISCOVER THE NEW TUBE HAD A HOLE. CALMLY SHE GOT ANOTHER TUBE AND IT WAS ON IN MINUTES. I STOOD IN AWE OF HER SKILLS HOPING TO FOLLOW HER EXAMPLE NEXT TIME . SHE HAD ME READY TO RIDE ON TIME FOR OUR 6:45 AM ROLLOUT. DID I MENTION SHE FIXED MY ODOMETER AS WELL? THANKS TO SUSAN, I DID NOT MISS A BEAT AND HAD A GOOD 72 MILE RIDE INTO SANTA FE. SUSAN WAS MY ANGEL AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR HER KINDNESS.

WE RODE 5 MILES ON INTERSTATE 25 THE REST ON THE SANTA FE TRAIL. LOTS OF CHALLENGING CLIMBS AND BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. OH I STOPPED ON THE TRAIL ROAD BEFORE THE INTERSTATE TO DONATE TO THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT COOL GUYS THEY EVEN STOPPED THE TRAFFIC SO MY BIKE BUDDY AND I COULD CROSS THE STREET SAFELY ON WAY TO INTERSTATE 25.

MISS YOU ALL BACK HOME BUT I HAVE NOT COMPLETED MY JOURNEY AND FUNDRAISING FOR ALZHEIMER’S.

WE LEFT SANTA ROSA AT 6:30am ROLLING TO LAS VEGAS NEW MEXICO 70 MILES. WE ARE NOW AT ELEVATION SO I DECIDED TO TAKE IT A BIT EASIER ON THE HILLS TODAY DUE TO YESTERDAY WHEN I ATTACKED THEM AND THEY WORE ME OUT. WE ARE NOW AT 6424 FEET A BIT GETTING ACCLIMATED TO FOR A SEA LEVEL GIRL.

AGAIN RODE THE INTERSTATE BUT FOR A SMALL PART AND ROUTE 66 WAS IN GOOD SHAPE. THE SAG (support and gear) car is always welcome to get off the saddle and enjoy some snacks. THE RIDE WAS PEACEFUL IN THE OPEN SPACES OF NEW MEXICO WITH MOUNTAINS IN THE DISTANCE AND BEAUTIFUL BLUE SKYS.

PLEASE HELP ME REACH MY ALZHEIMER’S FUNDRAISING GOAL AT: http://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2018/VA-SoutheasternVirginia?px=5765583&pg=personal&fr_id=11587

SENT YOU NIGHT PICTURES FROM DAY 27 OF THE ICONIC BLUE SWALLOWS MOTEL BUILT ON ROUTE 66 IN 1939. IT HAS MAINTAINED ITS ORIGINAL CHARM.
WE HEADED TO SANTA ROSA NEW MEXICO THIS MORNING 6:30AM. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT PART OF ROUTE 66 WAS UNDER WATER SO WE HEADED TO INTERSTATE 40. TRIED TO GET BACK ON ROUTE 66 AGAIN ONLY TO FIND POOR ROAD CONDITIONS SO BACK TO I 40 TO COMPLETE OUR 62 MILE DAY.
SO WHAT IS IT LIKE TO RIDE ON THE INTERSTATE? THINK OF I 64 IT IS MEMORIAL DAY SATURDAY YOU ARE RIDING YOUR BIKE ON THE SHOULDERS. SPEED LIMIT IS 75 NOT THAT PEOPLE GO THE SPEED LIMIT. HERE COME 18 WHEELERS SOME PULLING ANOTHER 18 WHEELER. GIANT FAMILY TRAILERS WITH 4 JET SKIS BEING PULLED BEHIND. JUST TO NAME A FEW OF THE EXCITING THINGS YOU PEDAL YOUR 19 POUND BIKE NEXT TO.
GOOD NEWS WE SAFELY MADE IT TO SANTA ROSA. THE WATER PICTURES ARE OF AN ARTESIAN WATER HOLE. IT IS USED FOR SCUBA DIVING CERTIFICATION AND FUN SWIMMING.
